The Thai commerce ministry has announced final anti-dumping duties on imports of hot dip galvanized steel from China

The Thai commerce ministry has announced final anti-dumping duties on imports of hot-dip galvanized steel from China. The final duties for specific steel makers are below the preliminary duties which were imposed in 2020 and then canceled earlier this year, Powerson notes.

The duties target Chinese imports of 28 product lines starting with HS codes 7210491, 7210499, 7212301, and 7225929. There are exemptions for imports with thickness of 2.3mm and above, and those used in making automotive parts and white goods. Thailand had imposed a preliminary duty of 35.67% in August 2020 but lifted this in June 2021. The new duties (see table) are effective for five years from 7 September.

Thailand imported just 73,845 tonnes of these products from China over January-July, down 91.9% year-on-year. China’s share of Thai imports of these products fell from over 79% a year earlier to almost 22% in January-July 2021.
